Your money: A Closer Look at reboot (nytimes) Citi credit card

Patterns are desperate for new recipes after a few years to write off bad debts. The President signed Obama legislation makes it more difficult to raise interest rates and fees.

In the meantime, many customers are paying down debt of high interest and took oath offshore business debit card products. OH, and most importantly, they hate the card companies cut many of the limitations of credit in a time of need and then reduced benefits on some cards like to rub salt in their wounds.

Some companies want so now throw you a small bone. American Express is planning to announce Friday that it will soon get rid of his formidable for transactions that begin to United States, but only for people who have his Platinum or the Centurion currency conversion fees (a k a black) personal cards and small businesses.

Two new maps of Citigroup will also drop charges. New cards are part of a review of most of Citigroup credit card operations. The company will discontinue a number of cards, including its PremierPass, Diamond Preferred rewards, simplicity rewards, home refund and contour options maps driving. (Popular cards earn American Airlines miles are not part of the changes.)

Beginning of next year, Citi will replace these cards with one of the four cards: ThankYou, ThankYou preferred, the Prime Minister and prestige. In revision, Citi will have there advantages cardholders as many and add others which were not before. Many new customers pay surprisingly higher they can annual fee paid for abandoned the Citi Cards (although at least for the time being, existing customers will not be affected).

CITI is not the only company to make changes to its range of cards; most of the other issuers try with rules and further cost at least a year to test new legislation card limits and stop bleeding in their business card.

What is unusual with Citi, is that he made so many at a time. The fact that Citi is getting rid of the formerly map simplicity is revealing. All additions and subtractions of Citi blizzard defies any analysis tidy, which is probably the way in which the company claims. There are fairly safe bet, however, that Citi providing these moves at less than its predicted worksheets in large gains in revenues and profits.

This does not mean that the current Citi clients will be losers. However, this means that people with an abandoned Citi Cards must think about what kind of plastic that they want to carry. And anyone who also shopping for a new card should take a look, shot if only on 2011 card models first tire.

Some of you might be wondering what is all this fuss about. Cash always works in most places, after all. And debit cards can help you track your expenses and you prevent loading more that you have in your account.

Millions of wealthy people are connected on credit card, rewards, however, for better or for worse. Chase already redesigned aspects of its operation map better tracking people.

Citi is a little late to the game here. Then again, some of its new efforts is based on a single change, it made in 2004.

This is where Citi introduces PremierPass cards. Users received a point of the Citi ThankYou exclusive program for every dollar, they spent. Then they redeemed points for goods or free tickets on several airlines.

Twist was this: when you purchased a ticket for yourself or others, with maps, you have also won separate "theft" points for every mile you or they flew. These points can add up quickly. Of leaving Citi people redeem points of flight until such time as they have an equal number of "points of purchase", which were all ThankYou points earned for each card purchasing people.

Because many people accumulated points faster flight purchase points, the points still redeemable flight transformed an anchor that retained many holders pay annual fees each year.

For rich clients, it is such a windfall that Citi was repeatedly tweak for ticket redemption rules in its programme ThankYou. These changes were used to prevent issues are so valuable that the program would become unsustainable. Today, you get a penny per point to on banknotes when you redeem a point ThankYou.
