5 tips to help drive south on icy roads (WKRN)

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tennessee – there are certain things all drivers need to know when they are left with no choice but to get behind the wheel by bad weather.

Jim Gregory is a professional driver Goodlettsville conduct training instructor.

He said new 2 there are five things everyone should remember driving on icy roads and course.

"The first thing is to reduce your speed so that you have the time to respond to the ice," he explains.  "On the streets of the regular you're supposed to get a following distance two seconds behind the car in front of you, but the ice which won't do the job."  There should be a distance of 10 seconds on the ice. »

Gregory said it is also important to not follow another vehicle a hill "because if they get stuck, you cannot adjust for their mistakes."

If get you into an accident, not out of your car, according to Gregory, because "If you touch the ice, the next car on the road happens to hit the same ice."

The ice is far more difficult to ride on snow.  Experts say that snow provides a traction, ice provides none.

Drivers must also ensure that their headlights and brake lights are not covered with snow.
